I write
these notes because I have modified ADY.
After five
years ADY
was in need of an update and I put into
practice the ideas that were born in this time.
Preserving of "ADY"
what was already very good I redid the chassis,
the steering mechanism, the chain route, I
added a disc brake
at the rear and I also shortened her by 20 cm.
The result is a "SUV" able to do the rough terrain, to carry a large
load to be convenient and handy, but unfortunately it is quite heavy.
I am not responsible for problems deriving by realizations built
folowing my drawings.
If you have not already seen how I built ADY
give it a look , there are
also valid informations for ADY-2.
First of all I have changed the transmission system
removing the ADY's third
shifter that was needed to have a wide velocity range
.
Changing a wheel hub of a 24 " wheel I can use
9-speed sprockets (11/ 34). I
then used three crowns on the pedals ( 22-32-44 ) which guarantee a
very short climb ratio and a good top speed
. The use of only two return gears ensures smoothness and allows to
have a distance from the
ground of the chain very wide.
The chassis has been completely redone , shorter to improve traction .
The seat is moved back to the have maximum charge on the drive wheel
even if it leads to a little worse cornering
stability. The lower wheelbase allows to reduce
the turning radius . The seat is a bit ' high off the ground and, even
if it limit the cornering speed, is needed to improve the off-road
capabilities , you can go from very high sidewalks and overcome
substantial barriers .
The unusual configuration of the frame based on a lower triangle and a
seat that integrates it on the top is very robust . The rear wheel
support made from two parallel tubes do not interfere at all with the
chain.
The steering linkage was revised by increasing the lever arms to
eliminate the hardening steering that has happened on ADY .
The rear disc brake has proven to be very useful, maintains the
directionality to slow down and is more comfortable than the front
discs , which have a fantastic ability to block . The parking brake
that is controlled by a lever brake is indispensable.
The integrated roof rack is very sturdy and planned for the seat of the
granddaughters .
The front end , wheels and spindles are those of ADY recovered and
reconditioned.
Now I have added an electric motor
ADY-2 Motor
and a dual-tone horn.
