Linear pedals movement is a necessity using a 26" wheel.
With a little craziness and using links and cranks I was able to build
linear pedals.
Because this
realization is unusual I
do not assume responsibility about who will copy the solution.

With a 26" drive wheel is possible to use standard derailer
and components but on a delta we have big trouble because the cranks
and
pedal will be too far from seat.
The solution is to use linear pedals and move bottom bracket and cranks
in a different place.
In
the handbike, were pedals are moved by hand, a high position of cranks
is normal and perfectly working and then I have copied the
solution. The fact to have gears and cranks in
front of
eyes is not the maximum but is supportable.
Using a high hinge for pedals levers, feet can move in a movement that
is quite linear.
In a movement using link and crank it's very important to avoid dead
point or rotation in wrong direction. If,
when a
pedal reach the extreme far position, the link from the crank to the
other pedal is not in line but with a small angle the force has a
little lever that give rotation only in the correct direction.
In any case, if the lever is blocked, it's easy move cranks
with
fingers. This is easy because the position of crank
is in
front of you.
Move pedals in this way is unusual, the first sensation are feet that are used to go forward at the beginning and now must go backward. The other thing is that is not possible to have a high movement frequency.
If you are crazy like me you can get the habitude.
